Contacts! Contacts! Contacts!

A handheld has so much potential for organization of your contacts. We learned how to add contacts to our handhelds, as well as many of the capabilites that are available. Not only can you add basic info (address, phone number, cell number, etc.), but you can customize the info to include whatever you want! You could put in someone's shoe size and favorite color if you choose. All contacts can be put into categories to make finding them easier. You can share your contacts with someone else by beaming and then you do not have to enter all of the info by hand.

I think that this has great potential in a school in several ways. Administrators can have all the contact info on faculty/students in the palm of thier hand. They could even include notes on students/parents with special needs. Teachers can use them to organize parent contacts as well as contact info for colleagues. (This is always handy when inclement weather comes up, and you cannot find that emergency phone list!) Students would not have as much use for the contact application unless the handheld is there personal computer. They could put classmates info in to their handhelds if they are assigned one for the year, or if they are working on a group project.

First time with a handheld!

I registered for this class because I need recertification credit. Boy, am I gaining so much more. This class is quite informative. Today, we saw a short video about classes in MI that are using handhelds everyday as part of their routine. Handhelds can make an amazing difference in classroom learning! The students seemed so enthusiastic and motivated. Isn't always that way with new technology? I am learning so much about the possibilites for using a handheld for me personally as well. This is going to be fun!
